Today, I was supposed to be sitting out of the game, but Tony backed out, so I got to play Lawrence on a 1-1 game, ideal for Midgard.
Lawrence had brought down the Romans and Carthaginians 400pt armies, so as I was given the choice, I opted for Carthage!
I was defender, so deployed my right around my Elephants.
I had Iberians and Gauls in my centre, with Libyan Spearmen on either end, my left ended with a unit of Numidian Cavalry.
Lawrence's Romans deployed on a narrow frontage.
The armies in overview.
The Roman Phalanx advanced, and to Lawrence's surprise I withdrew my Elephants and Infantry ahead of them! Only my Carthaginian horse and Balearic slingers advanced to outflank the pesky Latins.
My Gauls stayed in position, while my left wing Libyan Spearmen and Numidians moved forward to face the Roman and Allied cavalry.
An overview after turn 2.
Lawrence's Velites shot at long range, and as was to be a regular occurrence, he got 3 hits from 4 dice and damaged a Gallic infantry unit!!!
He was having the same luck against my Balearics, I couldn't hit squat!
My Heavy Cavalry charged a Velite unit...and lost!
I doubted Lawrence would charge with his Cavalry...at least I hope he wouldn't!
I started pressing the Legions flank with Gauls.
The Veles chased my Heavy Cavalry back.
The Roman Cavalry had indeed charged my forward unit of Libyans, who held, but this allowed me to charge the rest of my infantry and the Numidians in to support them.
My Gauls and Spanish also attacked.
On my right, my Heavy Cavalry, despite being near destruction, finally killed the Velites!
My good dicing continued on my left, where the Roman Cavalry was destroyed.
...they were soon followed by the Allied Horse, though my Libyan unit was almost destroyed too.
My Gallic charge failed, my poor Gauls...
...disintegrated!
The Roman Infantry was clever, replacing the Hastati with Principes, who overthrew my Spanish Scutarii.
On my right, I finally attacked with my Elephants, destroying a Hastati unit
On my far right, Lawrence got another 3 out of 4 hits on my Heavy Cavalry (My 'Hero' had even tried a 'Stand Fast' to get a Stamina point back, but failed!) - so a sad end to the Carthaginian Horse!
Soon after this, we had to vacate the hall, half way through the next turn, so I didn't get any pics, sorry.
My Elephants counter charged the Principes who attacked them, and I expected to beat them.
My Libyans next door were also fairly sure of beating the Hastati unit they were fighting, which was already weak, but we had to stop (sigh!)
We added up remaining Reputation, and I won 7-3, but it would have been nice to play it through!
