Today, (after Lawrence and myself had independently thought how long it had been since we did it) we went back through the gate for another mission!
The scenario I came up with, (though not a very good one as my mind has been elsewhere this week!) was that the SGC have been using an ancient surveillance device (with a hacked in human control panel!) to keep an eye on the local Goa'uld System Lord. After several months the Tech crew has failed to make their routine update - so General Hammond has decided to send 3 teams to find out what had happened, a tech heavy team and two Marine teams. (As usual, we were using my own rules.)
The gate on Faroushalai - the M.A.L.P. had been sent through and seen nothing untoward.
A straight track lead to the Ancient device.
Our teams ready to go 'Through the Gate'
I went first with my Marines, detailed to secure the gate.
Phil's Marines moved left, they would escort the Techs to the device.
I went to a thicket to try and get good fields of fire.
Lawrence's Techs and Phil's Marines decided to stay near the track.
I split my team on either side of the thicket.
The other teams decided to cut through the deep thickets.
After a last conversation with Walter, we severed connection and the Stargate disengaged.
The Marines took up positions of advantage, covering the Techs as they continued on towards the objective.
The Portal Markers withdrew ahead of them, so far they had failed to generate any opposition for us!
Ah! At last, a group of 6 Jaffa. They seemed unaware of our presence, they probably had been sent to see why the Chappa'ai had activated.
A round from a marine soon alerted them as to our presence!
The Jaffa were still unable to spot their assailant.
Eventually they advanced, looking for their enemy.
They still couldn't see the Marines, so their shots went wild.
Another group of Jaffa appeared, spotted my men and opened fire!
One of my Marines was injured!
The first group, having lost another two of their number had retreated to cover.
My other men went forward to cover me as I moved my casualty back.
The Jaffa saw the move and fired a mass of bolts from their staff weapons...
One man was wounded, the other disabled, fantastic shooting from the Jaffa!
Phil's men now came to my support, Lawrence's team had reached the water damaged control panel for the ancient device, it seemed that it had been abandoned a few days ago...it seemed the Jaffa didn't like being spied on!
Yet more Jaffa joined the attack on my position!
One of my wounded men had rescued my disabled guy, both of my wounded men had been able to stabilise their injuries, and they were back in action.
Phil's men gave me covering fire, and were keeping the Jaffa back, mostly.
Lawrence's Techs had downloaded some info from the device controls, and now retreated back through the jungle.
I and one of my wounded men took the disabled guy back towards the gate.
Phil's men had spread out in a semi circle to provide a screen while I withdrew.
The Jaffa were being hit, but not badly.
Their numbers were getting larger though, it wouldn't be long till we could expect an attack in force.
One group moved forward, looking for Lawrence's men.
One of my men began dialling home.
The Jaffa were firing rather than assaulting, and it showed!
My wounded helper was killed by a blast to his chest!
At last, the gate was dialled, and the Iris code sent.
I manhandled the disabled chap through the gate.
Some of the Jaffa were now advancing!
My other man dragged the fatality through the gate...good job he was fit!
Lawrence's team now went through...
...followed by Phils' rearguard! One or two bolts had gone through the gate too...
...I hope Walter had dropped the blast shield!
