More MiniGuard!

Today we tried Lawrences 6mm fantasy figures again for Midgard, Rhod had Orcs, I allied with him with Dark Elves, and we faced Phil with Elves and Lawrence with Dwarves and a couple of guest stars...

I had an Omens trait on one of my Dark Elf heroes, and again rolled a 6, yes, we got 3 Reputation, but one of our Heroes got Fated too. I have never won a game yet when the Omens were good!

(Many thanks to Lawrence and Rhod for adding their pics to the mix!)

The armies at start up, from behind my Dark Elves, I was facing Normal Elves.

A view down the lines...

Rhod had a Mammoth.
...a couple of units of Orc Archers...
...and 4 bands of Orc Warriors.

Rhod's flank was guarded by 3 units of Wolfriders.
I had witches in the centre...
with Lizard riders and a Chariot supporting my Spearmen.
The Elves opposite had alternated units of Spears with his Archers. Rhod was facing a Dwarven line of Axes and Bows, together with a Giant...
...and a Dragon!
The Dragon was soon at it, flying down the flank and scaring some Wolfriders!
Rather than engage the Dragon, the Orcs ran away from it, but it caught them (no surprise!)
Those dice are the hits it scored, against 2 or 3 against the Dragon!
Toast! at least Rhod turned to face the Wily Worm!
Rhod's Orc Warriors were taking shot from the Dwarves.
My Archers advanced and began winning a long range battle with the Elves.
The overall position at the end of turn 3.
The Dragon avoided being trapped, easily!
It was soon flying around, looking for targets, in the centre the Giant was under fire from Orc Archers and the Orc Warriors were getting beaten by the Dwarves.
One Orc unit was soon in flight!...
...Followed by the other!
Rhod charged in with the second line, winning both. In fact he destroyed an elite Dwarf unit!
The Dwarven Archers destroyed the last Orc Spear unit on Rhod's right.
His left hand Spears were holding ok though!
The Dragon was darting in and Flaming the 2 remaining Wolfrider units, the Bowmen who could have countered it were tied up with the Giant.
However, some turns the Worm wouldn't move!
...And poor Lawrence failed to get a 'Hold Fast' Mighty deed to work 3 times!
Ah well, back to the game!

Sadly, the last of Rhod's spears eventually broke, and the Orc Commander fought to the death against the Dwarven Bowmen.
The Dwarves were now able, as fast as their little legs would carry them, anyway, to wheel to threaten the Orc Archers.
The Dragon now made a mistake, instead of finishing of the singed Wolfriders, it tried to toast the Mammoth, and failed!
In the Elven stand off, I had been trying to snipe off Elven Heroes, but kept failing, the Elves only had luck against my Elite witch unit, which was badly damaged.
Then, as the Dwarven Archers charged their Orc opposite numbers...
...the other Orc Archers broke the Giant, who ambled away in pain!
We had to finish then.
It turned out the Good Guys won, by 4 Reputation (9/5). The curse of the Omens goes on! - at least the Dragon was happy!

Sorry for the picture quality, the lighting does not like this cloth!!

Medieval Midgard

Today we were yet again doing Midgard, but this time at Tony's suggestion, we did the Hundred Years War (1346) using the 'Lord Raglan' lists on the Midgard Facebook page.

We randomised who would play which army, and I got Tony commanding the English, while Rhod and Lawrence took the Scots and French.

I held the English left with Hotspur in command.

Tony held our right with an extended line of Men-at Arms and Welsh...
...as well as his Longbowmen. Both wings had a skirmisher unit of Crossbowmen.
The English Army.
The Franco-Scottish army.
Facing me was Rhod, with the majority of the Scots, together with some dismounted Men-at -Arms and Scottish archers.
Lawrence, facing Tony, had Men-at-Arms...
...both mounted and on foot, and 2 units of formed Crossbowmen.
Lawrence advanced his Crossbowmen, but they fell back from Tony's Longbowmen, disturbing both themselves and the mounted Knights behind!
Tony's Longbowmen were doing well.
On my wing (The English left) my Longbowmen stayed back, awaiting the Scottish Spearmen, I sent my light Crossbowmen through the wood.
They began peppering the Scots.
Lawrence had advanced his Crossbowmen - but they came to grief...
...but their fire caused one of Tony's Bow units to recoil.
On my wing, the Scots turned towards the wood...
...leaving their Archers and Skirmishers dueling with my Longbowmen...neither side causing much damage.
Tony charged his Men-at Arms against the French.
One of Tony's Men-at Arms unit was driven off by the French, causing damage  to the supporting Welsh too as they fell back.
His other unit pushed the second French Men-at Arms unit back, while the supporting Longbowmen routed the French Crossbowmen!
With their route cleared, a unit of French Knights charged one of Tony's Longbow units!
My Crossbowmen were pinning the Scots, and their supporting Men-at-Arms back!
To our surprise, the weakened English Men-at-Arms unit pushed the victorious French back again!
Those French Knights nearly destroyed the Longbowmen, but they just held.
The second Longbow unit charged in support and routed the French knights, but the first Longbow unit had had enough and fled too!
Back in the centre, Tony's Men-at-Arms beat their French enemy.
On my wing, although I had driven off the French skirmishers, the following Archers were fighting hard, until an arrow slew their commander!
At the end of this turn, Tony's wing was battered, but victorious!
We totaled up the Reputation and we had 10, the poor French -1!
The centre was stable, even the battered English Men-at-Arms unit had survived!
On my wing, despite my fears, the Scots had never got close!
So, a great English victory! - I felt sorry for the poor French, their dice really were poor today, so our averagey dice were sufficient!!!
