Today we had another game of Stargate skirmish (using my own rules, natch!)
I did a bit more of a scenario since the last game, this is what I told the other players...
After the first Russian SG team got mashed up in the episode 'The Tomb' (S5, Ep 8) a permanent unit, now classified as SG-4 has been set up, and is doing missions alongside the Americans, though rarely together with them.
All this was about to change as the Tok'ra have given the SGC information on a Russian POW being transferred to a ship - before taking him to a planet without a Stargate.
General Hammond calls Colonel Chekov, the Russian liason, to query the accuracy of this report, and reluctantly, he tells Hammond about one of the missions the Russians ran separately from the Americans before the two programs combined. Apparently one of the Russian teams 'lost' a man off-world, and this could be him.
Chekov also tells Hammond 'One of SG-4s current members, Katarina Menchikova was on the original Russian mission, and that in light of this, perhaps it would be good for the Russian SG-4 to mount the rescue mission?'.
"Not Alone!" Hammond replied, " I think this is a 3 team operation"
"My team is quite capable, General" Chekov responded, his face reddening slightly.
"Colonel Chekov, this is not a put down for our Russian friends, but you must admit, SG-4 has only had limited off world experience, and having some back up is surely only prudent!"
After more 'diplomacy' the 3 team plan is agreed...
The prisoner is being transferred on P3X-4C3 4 hours from now via the Stargate there. It is a very narrow window of opportunity and must be grasped.
The Stargate is open on P3X-4C3, and the MALP has scanned the area.
In the distance, a ruined temple where the prisoner exchange will occur, ?when?.
Phil's newly painted team was first through the gate...
...followed by Lawrence's.
My newly finished Russians were last on and were directed to support the other 2 teams. I placed them in a fire position behind a bush!
The gate shut down. 'Er Commander', my team leader asked, 'what about the remote, will it not give our presence away?'
I started dialling home and the MALP began moving towards the gate.
Away it went!
Phil moved up the left, driving Portal Markers before him. He queried about the lack of Jaffa appearing despite some good 'Arrivals' die rolls... but I had a plan!
Lawrence took the right.
I followed up, off road, but in the open.
Finally, a large enough roll on 'Arrivals' allowed me to forget the running total in my head!
An incoming wormhole!
We all dived for cover, it was at this point Phil thought about the Claymores we had! - ah well, too late now!
Lawrence had his men in position...
Opposite, and offset, so did Phil.
I used a system I had used in a solo game during COVID, I placed several Portal Markers behind the Stargate, and each turn, I removed one.
First through the gate, 8 Jaffa, Serpent Guards.
Under Phil's orders, we stayed hidden as more Jaffa came through the gate...this group had a prisoner!
Would the column of Jaffa never end?
Then I threw a '1' - which is no arrivals, no matter what, so that ended the stream!
The gate closed, this was the column we had to deal with.
I dashed my team behind the big rock, fortunately the Jaffa did not see me!
I was now in a better position, covering the rear of the column, and the Stargate.
My Russians fired, but a '1' meant only a suppression.
Then 2 Jaffa fell, next to the prisoner! - after a frantic radio call, they shifted their fire to the front group!!!!
OOOPS!
Fire from Phil on the other side took down another Jaffa with the prisoner, but it was a carefully aimed shot, that could pick out a single target.
Being up a height was good!
The third Jaffa unit spotted me and attacked, very nearly hitting Lt Valinov.
The prisoner was escorted towards cover.
The prime leader was wounded.
Lawrence saw the front group of Jaffa moving round his flank, and engaged them.
A very good volley! My Russians helped though!
I had left the rock as the Jaffa attacked and shot in support.
I rapidly ran behind Lawrence's position, to avoid being overrun.
Lawrence now engaged them.
The Jaffa headed for cover, returning ineffective fire as they did.
Phil had infiltrated the hill his Jaffa prisoner escort had reached...he ambushed the head of the column.
Lawrence was keeping the big groups of Jaffa at a distance.
My Russians moved back to support Lawrence.
Phil was driving the Jaffa down the hill.
Eventually he managed to kill the prisoner escorts.
Lawrence was faced with an assault from those Jaffa, who had got an attack together
Again they were halted.
The Russians had the other group trying to outflank us.
Once again the Russian fire was deadly.
Phil's team were surprised when the prisoner ran towards the Stargate rather than waiting to be rescued.
Lawrence had driven his enemy away...
...the last two decided to...run away!
Seeing the prisoner, my Russians ran to intercept him, Lawrence would have to stop my Jaffa.
Phil was still on his hill.
Lawrence's men shot down 2 of 'my' Jaffa.
Ah, Phil left the hill and headed for the gate too.
The final wounded Jaffa stood bravely as Lawrence's team moved forward...
As he raised his staff weapon he was cut down.
Phil occupied the Stargate.
He spotted the front group of Jaffa, who had been lurking there.
Lt Menchikova had been talking to the prisoner, but my leader wandered behind him and put a bullet through his head!. Lawrence asked what was going on? - my team leader simply answered " We have our orders!"
Lawrence's team moved forward quickly.
Phil's team had watched the drama dispassionately, and exited through the Stargate...
...Brushing his AK-74 through the event horizon, the Russians followed.
Lawrence's men looked at the body as they passed, and left.
So, a successful mission? - well, at least we didn't lose anyone this time!!!
What do you think was going on?
